Xcel Energy outlines need for 765 kV line, says half the time flows would serve South Dakota area

Tim Rogers, representing Xcel Energy, provided a brief synopsis of why a 765 kV transmission line is being considered and described the system-wide role of high-voltage corridors. Rogers said stakeholders should "think of the power network as being roads with electrons that go were needed," and he noted that "50% of the time electrons would go to the South Dakota service area." He said he would return to a future meeting with more detailed information on how energy flows vary by season and usage.
Rogers framed the proposal as part of a broader generational shift in electric supply: the model, he said, is changing from coal toward wind, solar and gas resources and the transmission system must adapt to move power between regions. Committee members asked for more detail at a future meeting; no technical documents or route maps were presented at this initial session.
