The Brookings County 765 kV Transmission Line Advisory Committee met June 10, 2026, and unanimously elected Chad Ford (Planning & Zoning) as chair. The nomination was moved by Commissioner Kelly VanderWal and seconded by Commissioner Dave Miller; minutes record that "Motion to nominate Chad Ford as Chairperson. All present voted aye."
County Development Director and emergency manager Robert Hill outlined the subcommittee composition: 18 representatives including two county commissioners, four Planning & Zoning representatives (one alternate), an industry representative from Xcel Energy, seven township representatives, two members at large, one states attorney representative and the county development director. The committee voted to hold future meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in room 300 of the County/City Government Center and to post relevant documents on the county website for member review.
Committee members framed the advisory role as fact-finding: members will review the existing Brookings County Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance and consider testimony, evidence and industry input before advising the County Commission. The meeting record shows unanimous procedural votes to approve the agenda and set the schedule; the next meeting is scheduled for the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
