Dan Dahlke, the county engineer, briefed the commission on recent crew activity and infrastructure work. He said paving crews resumed hot‑mix work and cited specific pipe repairs at Pinell Lake and Pope's Chapel; staff plans included additional inlet repairs and possible concrete reinforcement at vulnerable pipe ends to extend service life.
Dahlke described a BUILD grant application aimed at funding preliminary engineering for a multisegment project (phase 1 estimated roughly $25 million for construction). He said the county is preparing letters of support from local businesses and expects to submit the application by the Tuesday deadline. On administrative systems, Dahlke outlined GIS upgrades — including a linear referencing system and potential Esri professional services and on‑site training — that would let staff track work orders, paving histories and provide public access to road maintenance records.
"We've been doing around 50 miles a year," Dahlke said of recent road work and said GIS improvements would make operations and public transparency easier. Commissioners supported continuing the grant push and asked staff to bring scope and budget details back for review.
