Board approves special-education and support service contracts after staff overview

Trustees pulled section E of the consent agenda to request clarification about the many contracts listed. A staff member identified in the meeting packet as Julie explained the contracts are primarily for special education services, including independent contractors and agencies providing school psychologists, speech-language pathologists and assistants (SLPAs), occupational and physical therapy, nurses, and behavior interventionists. She also described agency contracts for behavior services (CenterPoint, Viewtron, ProCare), an attendance-tracking pilot funded through the community schools program, a Tools of the Mind preschool curriculum renewal, and an online-course pilot intended for alternative placements such as juvenile detention or homebound students.

"Most of them do actually come from, special services, specifically special education department," Julie said during the explanation. After trustees questioned details, Trustee Stone moved to approve section E contracts as stated in the consent agenda; a second was made and the motion carried by voice vote. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript for that vote. The staff explanation emphasized the contracts are intended to ensure required services for students with disabilities and to pilot programs that could be expanded pending results and funding.
