Rob said that while the grant only covers part of the cost, it could provide meaningful seed funding: “So this grant program makes up to ... it makes $1,000,000 available,” he said, noting that projects accommodating fewer than 10 lots are eligible for $500,000 while projects above that threshold can receive $1,000,000. The board heard a rough project estimate of about $2,000,000 to extend utilities from the former Finn's restaurant site to the mobile home park, with the grant potentially covering roughly half of that cost.
Rob explained the county prescreens applications and forwards them to the state; he encouraged the board to “throw our hat” into the prescreening process so the town would be considered for available statewide funds. Board members agreed it was worth applying and discussed using staff time to prepare the short application; Rob estimated a modest staff cost to assemble the submission and said he would proceed if the board approved pursuing the prescreening step.
The board did not take a final vote to commit local matching funds during the discussion; members emphasized coordination with county and state timelines and agreed to move forward with the prescreening application process.
