Town officials and planning consultants opened the Town of Alexandria's first public meeting to develop a new comprehensive and strategic plan, describing the document as an outward-facing tool for guiding growth and competing for grants. Morgan Spencer introduced the session and the consultant team, and the presenter asked residents to help identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
The lead presenter said the plan will be used for grant applications and to show prospective developers that the town is "serious and structured about growth in a strategic way." Residents repeatedly emphasized the area's natural assets and marsh complexes as a top priority: "Any proposed development in these areas really needs a high degree of scrutiny," one participant said. The group also discussed trails and pedestrian connections; several speakers recommended low-impact trail surfacing and better signage.
Board members and consultants said the plan will incorporate survey results and committee work completed to date. The consultant urged ongoing public input and noted the draft will be released for public review before finalization. Planning staff said the document can be amended later as conditions and priorities shift.
