Resident reports cloudy drinking water; city superintendent outlines recent main replacement

Anna Gray told the Mount Carroll City Council she has experienced ongoing cloudiness in her drinking water, asking the council to seek grants to replace pipes so residents can safely drink tap water. "After a month it clouds up," Gray said during public comment.
Superintendent Jonathan Armstrong reported the Water and Sewer Committee had cut out a rusted 8-inch pipe at Market and Galena streets and installed a replacement; he said the council was "just very thankful it didn’t drain the water tower." Armstrong said hydrant flushing is scheduled the week of May 11, pool filling will begin that week to warm for a May 30 opening, and the department plans crack-filling at several city properties with an estimated cost of $2,500. The council did not take additional action beyond hearing the report and the resident’s request; Gray asked the council to pursue grant funding to replace problematic pipes.
