Vallejo council member urges Solano County to coordinate emergency food support during SNAP interruptions

Dr. Tanya Lettichu, a Vallejo council member calling as a resident (speaker 27), urged Solano County supervisors to move beyond awareness to coordinated action in response to recent interruptions of SNAP (CalFresh) benefits. Lettichu told the board that more than 50,000 residents in the county depend on CalFresh and that local cities (Vallejo, Fairfield, Vacaville) account for the bulk of recipients; she urged establishment of emergency food funding, a countywide coalition and expanded multilingual outreach.
"When benefits are interrupted, families skip meals, schools see the impact, and local businesses lose critical spending," Lettichu said, pressing the board to explore philanthropy and interjurisdictional coordination to shore up food access. Supervisor Wanda Williams later described a forthcoming town hall on federal benefit cuts and invited community partners to participate.
