County schedules Sept. 1 public hearing to apply for up to $750,000 in 2026 CDBG housing funds

David West, the county’s Housing & Community Development coordinator, told the committee the county intends to apply for up to $750,000 in 2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to continue a low‑income homeowner renovation program it administers with INHS.
"We can apply for up to $750,000," David said, and explained county policy requires a resolution to schedule a public hearing before the public notice is published. The committee moved, seconded and approved the resolution to schedule the public hearing for Sept. 1; the resolution will go to the full legislature for approval prior to publication of notice.
David also gave a procurement update on an RFP for a housing strategy funded in part by last year’s CDBG award and partially by IDA funds; the county has received strong responses and is finalizing contracts with two firms to draft a multi‑year housing strategy intended to coordinate with municipal zoning work.
The committee approved the scheduling resolution; staff will publish hearing notice contingent on legislature approval and return with any required documentation.
