Board adopts personal electronic device policy to comply with governor's directive

At its Oct. 13 meeting the Klamath Falls City Schools Board adopted updated policy JFCEB and administrative regulation JFCEB‑AR to limit student use of personal electronic devices during instructional time, in line with guidance from the Governor's office and OSBA model language.
Renee Clark, the district's director of human resources, said the update implements the governor's executive order requiring districts to adopt restrictions and that conducting a first reading at this meeting satisfied the "in progress" requirement ahead of the Oct. 31 adoption deadline. The board moved to adopt the policy that evening to remain on schedule for full implementation by Jan. 1.
Kathy Hewitt moved to approve the policy; Nicole Trejo seconded. The board voted unanimously in favor. The district will follow OSBA model language and publish implementation guidance for staff and families ahead of the January effective date.
