Sedgwick County seeks KDOT Major Investment Study for Northwest Expressway; $100,000 budgeted for local share

Lynn (staff) asked the commission to add an agenda item to request that KDOT consider a Major Investment Study (MIS) for the Northwest Expressway. Lynn said the last MIS for the corridor was completed in 1997–98 and urged an updated study to reassess current infrastructure needs.
"We have a $100,000 set aside for this already in our budget, but we will not know the full cost until KDOT — assuming they initiate it — gets bids and calculates the study cost," Lynn said. Lynn added the county would include a letter signed by the chairman and Lynn and would gather letters of support to accompany the request.
Commissioners asked whether West Kellogg would be in scope; Lynn answered that West Kellogg is planned as a separate project but that the MIS would consider the connection to the corridor. Staff said KDOT will provide an eventual budget estimate and the county expects to return the proposed cost-share numbers for approval.
Next steps: staff will prepare the letter to KDOT (to be signed by Chairman Beatty and Lynn) and will bring returned cost-share information back to the commission when KDOT provides an estimate.
