Board approves temporary MOU to compensate six Homestead High School Spanish teachers

Mister Parker presented a memorandum of understanding between MSD Southwest Allen County Schools (SACS) and the teachers' association (SACTA) to temporarily compensate six volunteer Homestead High School Spanish teachers who will cover an additional instructional period while a colleague is on leave. Parker said the MOU applies only to these six teachers and only for this unique situation; "participating teachers will teach 7 instructional periods each day without a scheduled prep period, and will receive an additional compensation equal to 0.143 of their annual contracted salary prorated for the actual days of the assignment," he said.
Parker told the board the agreement begins upon board approval and "automatically ends when either the teacher returns, a replacement is hired if needed, or the district and association mutually agree to end it." Board members asked about the expected duration; staff said the district plans to revisit the arrangement at the end of the month and will review on a monthly basis. The board moved, seconded and approved the MOU by voice vote.
