District administrator reports Deer Ridge safety compliance, student national placements and community donations

Doctor Saint John, speaking for MSD Southwest Allen County Schools, opened the meeting with a series of district communications and recognitions. He said a random compliance review and site visit by the Indiana Office of School Safety (now within the Indiana Department of Homeland Security) confirmed Deer Ridge Elementary was "fully compliant with all emergency preparedness and school safety requirements established under Indiana law." The superintendent credited administrators, teachers and staff for the compliance result.
Saint John also highlighted student achievements at Homestead High School. He named Lucas Acree, Brishti Ad Haikari, Jalen Frechette Berrios, Sofia Hill, Caitlin Jacklich, Brooklyn Knowles and Annabelle Thurman as students who attended the 73rd annual National Junior Classical League conference in Bloomington and who earned multiple national placements. He singled out Sofia Hill's placement in the league publication: "Veritas et Schientia" placed fourth in the nation, Saint John said.
The superintendent reported a community service effort at Summit that donated old basketball and soccer uniforms to Feed Zimbabwe; the uniforms now outfit teams at Mount Saint Mary's and Sango Primary School. Saint John described a parallel collection of cleats, socks and shin guards that will be shipped to Zimbabwe in the coming month.
The district also held a districtwide teacher kickoff for the 2627 school year focused on connection and celebration, Saint John said. He described transportation provided by bus drivers and a breakfast sponsored by Hagerman, and noted the event's theme and emphasis on putting students at the center of the district's work.
