Esmeralda, representing the Parks & Recreation Department, delivered the semiannual report and highlighted several accomplishments: the marina received a Golden Anchor Award; staff members Carrie Holmes and Salud Campos completed national event-management certifications; and girls' participation in flag football has grown from 27 in year one to 49 this year.
"The first year, we had 27 girls enrolled. Last year, we had 35, and this year, we had 49 girls enrolled," Esmeralda said, noting two local teams attended regional competition in Seattle. Council members praised the department work and suggested a community feedback survey for future markets and programs. Esmeralda closed by thanking council for the opportunity to expand services.
