The Simsbury Conservation Commission on Aug. 4 reviewed a referral from the Zoning Commission concerning a planned car wash at 10 Dorset Crossing. The Zoning Commission had held and closed a public hearing on the item on July 20, 2026.
Assistant Town Planner Brittany MacGilpin explained that, under the Planned Area Development (PAD) process, Zoning refers the matter to land‑use agencies including the Conservation Commission for review. Representatives for the applicant (Dorset Crossing LLC) and the proposed operator (Diamond Sparkle Car Wash) provided information and answered commissioner questions. Presenters listed in the minutes include Dwight Merriam (FAICP), Brandon Handfield (PE), Mark Devoe (Planner for New Hartford), Plato Doundoulakis (LEP) and Joe Goldbeg of Diamond Sparkle Car Wash.
The record shows commissioners asked questions of the project team; the commission did not take a formal vote on the referral at this meeting but directed town staff to provide a written summary of discussion topics for the commission’s next regular meeting.
Because this was a referral review under the PAD process, any Conservation Commission comments will be advisory to the Zoning Commission and do not, by themselves, authorize site work.
