Commission hears $670,000 power estimate for regional sports park; design RFP near award

Parks staff gave the committee an update on the regional sports park and related projects, saying the design RFP is nearly finished and a construction partner (McEvain Construction) is lined up. Staff said much work has happened behind the scenes and that the project will be built in phases; phase 1 includes four ball fields.
"They have a cost of, 670,000 for just running the power to that complex, which is quite the bill," Eric said during the presentation. Eric told commissioners the city intends to pursue an underground power option — an expensive up-front choice staff argues avoids spending money twice on temporary poles and later replacing them.
Commissioners asked about fundraising and the budgeting approach for the park. Eric said the sports complex was included in the capital plan with some funds set aside, but that additional money will be needed to complete the project. He reported the clerk's office has been handling the donation campaign; "from what I know, they got $6,000, and it was, from, mayor Pike and mayor Gerber," he said. Commissioners requested a future presentation detailing the fundraising campaign and the capital plan allocations.
The update also covered logistics at the site — utility sleeves placed for future connections, repurposing fencing salvaged from old ranches, and coordination with Idaho Power on timing. Staff said construction activity should begin to accelerate once the design contract is awarded.
