Board bans commercial food deliveries to students during instructional day

The Corning Union High School District board on Feb. 12 unanimously approved a policy prohibiting commercial food delivery services from delivering food to students during the instructional day, citing student safety, campus security, and equitable access to nutrition services.
Principal Jason Armstrong presented the Health and Wellness committee recommendation and read the operative guidance: "Students may not order food deliveries to campus during the school day." The policy allows exceptions approved by site administration for food deliveries scheduled after the end of the school day, food provided for school‑sponsored activities (including athletic teams traveling to away games), and other limited situations the principal or designee deems appropriate.
Board members voted 5–0 to adopt the guideline as presented. Supporters said the restriction is intended to reduce disruptions to instruction and ensure consistent access to school nutrition services; the board did not attach an enforcement timeline during the meeting. Administrative staff will have discretion to approve narrow exceptions under the policy.
