County pushes juvenile‑justice bill and monitors tax bills at state legislature

"We have a bill that I think is very mature. It is ready for introduction," Commissioner Howell said, explaining the proposed changes are intended to restore an intermediate placement option previously available in state law and to reduce inappropriate use of foster care or youth incarceration for certain juveniles. Staff confirmed they expect a hearing soon and that county staff and partners will testify as needed.
The board received the legislative update; no vote was required. Staff will continue to brief commissioners as bills progress.
