County updates two stream corridor assessment grants for 6 Mile Creek and Fall Creek

Tompkins County staff reported progress on two separate $75,000 planning grants for comprehensive stream corridor assessments, one focused on 6 Mile Creek and the other on Fall Creek.
"We have applied for 2 separate $75,000 grants for, what the state calls comprehensive stream corridor assessment studies," Darby said in the committee presentation, describing the project goals. The 6 Mile Creek study completed extensive field data collection covering roughly four miles and about 60 stream segments; consultants will now rank priority sites and develop three concept plans to inform future implementation funding applications.
Fall Creek, which extends into neighboring counties and includes more agricultural lands and CAFOs, started its field work in June and has a public survey posted on the county website for landowner input. Staff said committees can expect a draft report on the 6 Mile Creek project within months that will include prioritized sites and concept designs for future engineering and funding work.
