County backs $13,425 for 18-acre Caroline wetlands protection to Wetlands Trust Inc.

The Finger Lakes Land Trust intends to transfer the parcel to Wetlands Trust Incorporated for long-term protection.
Abigail told the committee: "The Schneider parcel, the land trust is requesting $13,425 for the protection of 18 acres that they will transfer to the Wetlands Trust Incorporated." She said the parcel lies within the 6 Mile Creek natural-feature focus area, is primarily wetlands and contributes to protection goals for the Thomas Road wetlands complex.
Members discussed parcel maps, connectivity, and whether surrounding private parcels might be brought into protection later. Staff said protecting the highlighted parcel will prevent infill development on the most buildable portion of the site and retain wetland function. The committee moved and approved the appropriation during the meeting.
