Design review board kicks off update to Eagle Architecture and Site Design book

Bill Vaughn told the board that staff and several council members are prepared to help kick off a project to update the Eagle Architecture and Site Design (ESD) book and the board discussed scope, schedule and process. The proposed update would cover architectural styles, building massing and articulation, signage, streetscape elements, landscape palettes and fencing; it will be pursued as a zoning-ordinance-adjacent process, reviewed by the Planning & Zoning Commission and then forwarded to council for adoption.
Members agreed on a largely in-house approach with an option for limited consultant help if needed. The board asked members to gather photographic examples of preferred and disliked local and regional designs and to submit them to staff leads (noted as Barb and Emily) for compilation into a workshop packet. Staff suggested a hands-on, two-hour workshop format and a tentative multi-meeting timeline to produce a draft update within a few months. "If you're out and about anytime... take your 5 favorites, take your 5 not so favorites, and we'll bring them back," one member said, underscoring the participatory approach the board set for the update.
