"We are the only domestic violence shelter on the Eastern Shore Of Virginia," Walter said, and described needs for transportation volunteers, clothing, bedding and hygiene supplies.
Walter said the shelter’s annual operating budget is about $1,200,000 and that it depends on grants and community contributions. She promoted a fundraiser: "It is gonna be on November 16 at Box Hall near the country club. Tickets are $65 each," Walter said, and provided a contact phone number for ticket purchases. Council members asked whether the shelter breaks down client origin by town; Walter said they track by county (Accomack and Northampton) but do not provide town‑level tallies.
The council did not take action on the presentation but members thanked Walter and noted opportunities to publicize volunteer needs through town channels. The shelter asked residents to consider donating clothing, diapers and transportation help for appointments and therapy.
