Notus council adopts small sanitation and administration fee increases

The Notus City Council on Oct. 7 adopted Resolution 24-02 to implement modest increases to the sanitation service and administration fees following a public hearing at which no members of the public spoke. The council discussed higher costs passed through by the Pickle Butte landfill, postage and staff wages; the increases described in the agenda materials raise the administration fee by $0.47 and the sanitation-service fee by $0.71. "The hearing was correctly advertised and published," City Clerk Loretta Vollmer stated during the opening of the hearing.
Councilmembers discussed wording edits to the draft resolution before voting. Council President Steve Ahlborn suggested changing an apparent reference of "105%" in the draft to "5%" and removing the word "cents." Councilmember Devin Krasowski moved to approve the increase and Resolution 24-02 with the noted edits; Councilmember Rob Hartsock seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Ahlborn, Krasowski, Hartsock and Connor in favor; the motion carried. The minutes and agenda papers show that single-cart sanitation service will be billed at $16.45 and that carts remain $3.00.
