City plans America250 parade and market; insurance and safety push fireworks to a light show

The plan includes a proposed Liberty tree for Arbor Day and monthly planning meetings to coordinate the yearlong slate of activities. "We're going to go ahead and turn, the Wet and Wild parade into America 250 parade," the staff member said, and she invited commissioners to volunteer for planning or for the July 11 market.
On public-safety and budget limits, staff told the commission that fireworks have been effectively ruled out because the city could not furnish the required insurance for available venues. "We don't, unfortunately, have a place in the city of Eagle to do fireworks...We don't have $2,000,000 worth of insurance," she said. She added that the parade costs about $65,000 a year and that the full festival fund is around $100,000; with rising scale the city is weighing alternatives such as a light show in place of fireworks.
Commissioners discussed ways to tie historic-preservation messaging into America250 events (temporary banners, plaques at the booth, walking tours) and agreed to help plan the museum's presence at the July market. No formal vote was taken.
