Commission pauses CLG grant application; staff proposes $8,000 local budget for plaques and small outreach

And they said, so anything that you wanted to do would only be we would only be able to give, cities that apply anywhere between 15 and 2,000," she said. She and the mayor concluded that the anticipated award amounts would be too small to support meaningful work such as surveys or National Register nominations, so the city will not submit an application this cycle.
Instead, staff described an available local budget—"around $8,000"—that could be reallocated for small projects such as plaques, printing, ribbon cuttings and a modest grant program. "We actually have a budget, and we wouldn't need, we wouldn't need grants for… $8,000 that would go to plaques, would go to printing, would go to, small, ribbon cuttings," the staff member said. Commissioners discussed how to prioritize small outreach items and whether to pursue physical plaques or QR-code resources; staff encouraged commissioners to identify candidate properties and laid out the budget calendar for potential increases next cycle.
No formal action to expend funds was taken at the meeting; staff said the commission can place specific awards or brochure content on a future agenda for formal consideration.
