Board asks staff for trail-gap inventory and to pursue sidewalk connections with TxDOT along FM 2499

During status reports at the July 28 meeting, board members pressed for an updated inventory of trail-project gaps across the city to inform grant applications and future board action.
The chair asked whether TxDOT’s future widening of FM 2499 would create an opportunity for the city to request completion of sidewalk connections; Bill confirmed it would and said Scott Christian, director of public works, "will be working with him directly" on infill connections and is aware of the board's desire to complete sidewalks within city limits. A board member said they would like an updated map of gaps — not only prioritized projects — to guide planning and potential use of remaining CDC funds.
Bill said the trails master plan and its update identify existing gaps and invited direction on specific areas of focus. Board members suggested coordinating trail-gap work with grant efforts for FM 407 and other priority projects and flagged the possibility of sunsetting CDC activity when key trail projects are completed. Staff agreed to provide updates and further detail for future agendas.
