The Gage County Board of Supervisors voted July 8 to adopt Resolution No. 26-13, approving Special Use Permit #2026-4, which modifies the boundaries of the county’s Wellhead Protection District Overlay. The application from the City of Beatrice proposes removing parts of Blakely and Grant townships (specific sections listed in the resolution) — approximately 8,500 acres in total — from the overlay because the city no longer uses certain wells for municipal drinking water due to high nitrate levels.
The Gage County Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on May 20, 2026, and recommended approval, concluding the application complied with Gage County Zoning Regulations and would not change the district’s character as described in the county comprehensive plan. Supervisor Gary Lytle moved to adopt Resolution No. 26-13; Eddie Dorn seconded. All members present (Adams, Clabaugh, Haxby, Tiemann, Lytle and Dorn) voted yea and the resolution was signed by Chairman Erich Tiemann and attested by County Clerk Dawn Hill.
