The board reviewed a request discussed earlier in the year to use a Pre-K tuition waiver as a recruitment incentive for volunteer fire department (FDP) members. Chairman Michael Maziarz framed the idea as a recruitment tool; Superintendent Barbara Wilson told the board Pre-K tuition revenue is town income rather than BOE budgeted funds and said the proposal will require review by the policy and fiscal subcommittees and coordination with the Board of Selectmen.
Board members asked Wilson to check whether any families currently in Pre-K would be affected by an imminent tuition payment and agreed the matter should be discussed at the Fiscal Policy Meeting on Aug. 12, 2026. No final action was taken at the Aug. 3 meeting; the board signaled more local coordination and a policy review were needed before any waiver could be implemented.
