Board hears Healthy Kids plan for before/after care and considers 'Pay to Participate' fee caps

Wilson said Healthy Kids intends to offer drop-in days and to prioritize hiring Porter staff before recruiting outside the district; all staff would undergo background checks. The district also plans a NOVUS presentation on technology changes in September.
Separately, board members discussed replacing the proposed 'Pay to Play' fee structure with 'Pay to Participate' to cover sports and other activities. A $150-per-athlete-per-season fee with a $250 family cap was considered; board members discussed how best to identify students eligible for fee assistance. Chairman Maziarz recused himself from the Pay to Participate discussion because the fee would affect his children. Board members agreed a special meeting may be needed to finalize the fee before the fall season.
