Animal Shelter Director Danette Langdon asked the Commission to approve attendance at the Best Friends Sanctuary "Save Them All" conference in Utah, after several years of absence. Langdon said the trip (4–5 days) offers networking with national shelter leaders, grant partners and behavioral and transport specialists; she recommended sending a transport and behavioral specialist to strengthen operations and pursue regional-shelter options.
Langdon reported more than $15,000 in direct grant funding and in-kind support from Best Friends this year, including a $10,000 Rachel Ray No-Kill grant and a $5,000 unsolicited grant, along with vaccines and transport assistance. Commissioner McCall moved to approve travel; Vice-Chair Jaramillo seconded and the motion passed by roll-call vote.
Langdon said staff will seek facility-design ideas and cost-effective transport and portable-shelter options during the conference and follow up with grant-seeking as appropriate.
