Clinton asks DeWitt County to split $17,200 cost for 250th fireworks; board refers request to finance committee

Tony Harris, Clinton City Administrator, asked the DeWitt County Board on Feb. 19 to share the cost of a 20-minute fireworks display for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. He told the board “the cost of a 20minute fireworks display…is $17,200 and he’s asking for the Board to go in half with the City of Clinton.”
Board members did not vote on the request at the meeting. Chairman Witte said the matter would be taken up under new business; later the board voted to send the request to the Finance Committee for further review and recommendation. The motion to refer the item did not include any funding commitment or timetable.
