Domestic violence contractor warns county lost access to state grant funds; requests investigation and redirection

Torrance County's domestic violence contractor said the county missed a new CYFD grant deadline and that the county may be unable to access two remaining years of a prior three-year grant awarded to VSS; the county manager and county attorney were directed to investigate where those funds are going and whether they can be redirected to the county program.
Tracey Master, contractor for Torrance County's domestic violence (DV) program, reported outreach efforts, a resource list in development and current operational gaps. Master said the county missed the application deadline for a new three-year CYFD grant during program transition and that CYFD informed staff Torrance County "cannot access remaining two years of 3-year funding previously granted to VSS."
Chairman Schwebach directed the County Manager and County Attorney to determine where those funds are currently going and to seek to redirect them to Torrance County's program if possible. Commissioner McCall said he had discussed the issue with Rep. Gonzalez at the Roundhouse and Master agreed to forward correspondence and documentation to the county to aid the investigation. The DV program reported ongoing needs for food, diapers and gift cards while program staff manage active caseloads; Tracey said donations are being collected through Feb. 28.
