The curriculum committee approved presentation of a proposed pilot with Kaplan testing to offer a New Jersey real-estate prelicensing course to High School South business academy students. The course is an asynchronous 75-hour prelicensing program Kaplan is offering at a 50% discounted rate for the pilot cohort, with a student cost of $164.50. Students aged 17 may enroll and have up to six months to complete the course; they would be eligible to sit for the state licensing exam at age 18.
If the pilot succeeds, staff said they would work with guidance counselors to expand access to all high-school students the following year. Staff described the course as offering practical financial- and consumer-oriented content (home values, mortgages, financial planning) that can support career pathways for students interested in real-estate careers.
