Midyear diagnostics: Toms River students meet several on-track benchmarks; high school math growth stands out

At its Feb. 18 curriculum meeting, the district's assessment leads reviewed midyear diagnostic results across grades.
Staff reported the I Ready midyear target for math is approximately 52% on track; nearly every grade level met or exceeded that mark. For reading, staff cited a 55% midyear target with multiple grades meeting or exceeding it. At the high-school level, staff reported IXL-based growth metrics: ninth-grade students averaged about 103 growth points (staff said 100 points equals roughly one full grade level of growth), with grades 10 and 11 reporting similar, if slightly lower, growth measures.
Board members asked whether the district correlates these diagnostic tools with NJSLA results; staff replied that the district's I Ready results "almost exactly" match end-of-year NJSLA proficiency outcomes and that I Ready includes projected proficiency calculations used midyear to estimate final performance.
