Toms River budget timeline hinges on state aid as March 10 address nears

At the Board of Education Budget & Finance committee on Feb. 18, staff told board members the key unknown for the 2026–27 budget is state aid timing. "The governor's budget address is scheduled for March 10, and we get the state aid notices within 2 days of the budget address, so we will have those by March 12," a staff presenter said.
Staff reported a current lease/sponsorship receipt of $9,805 for the month and a year-to-date total of $459,215. The district reminded the board that a citizens' budget meeting is scheduled for April 1 and that formal budget hearings can begin the week of April 24. To avoid an extra meeting, staff proposed moving committee meetings from April 15 to April 22 and the regular board meeting from April 22 to April 29 so the tentative budget can be taken to the board and to the public in a single sequence.
Board members did not object to the proposed schedule change during the session. The district emphasized the short calendar between state aid notice (anticipated around March 12) and the deadline to present the tentative budget, and said staff will return with any updates after the governor's budget address.
