City manager reports on TID activity, triathlon, and road projects

City Manager Andrew Hausman updated the council on recent city activities. He reported that the 18th annual Fort Atkinson youth triathlon on July 25 had 89 participants ages 7 to 14 and thanked volunteer organizers. He also said the joint review board finalized creation of TID 11 and an amendment to TID 9, reviewed 2025 annual reports for TIDs 6, 7, 9 and 10, and is reviewing project plan drafts for proposed downtown TIDs 12 and 13, which the council will consider on Aug. 18.
Hausman noted a new four-year full-value maintenance contract with Associated Appraisal to stabilize assessments and listed upcoming roadwork: WisDOT will resurface a 5.5-mile section of Highway 89 north of the city, and Jefferson County will mill and overlay Business 26 from County K to Rita Lane beginning the week of Aug. 17 with completion expected by mid-September, weather permitting.
He also announced staffing changes: a water utility superintendent Matt Vassy (start Aug. 10) will overlap with the retiring director Jeff Armstrong through Aug. 14, and a public works operations hire will start Aug. 24. Hausman closed with reminders about the partisan primary election on Aug. 11 and the city's summer photo contest deadlines.
