Commission approves rezoning of two parcels on North McGill Highway to R-A-5

The White Pine County Regional Planning Commission voted 4-1 on April 16 to approve an application by resident Janeal Mathews-Newton to reclassify parcels at 2148 North McGill Highway and 1225 East 218 North Street (Assessor's Parcel Number 010-330-31) from split C-2 (General Commercial) and R-A-5 (Ranch Agricultural) to all R-A-5, as described in Title 17.28 of the White Pine County Code and Ordinance 203.10.
Mathews-Newton presented maps showing the split zoning and said she wanted the parcels to be entirely R-A-5: "We don't want these properties to be commercial, they just want them to be R-A-5," she told the commission. Commissioner Kenna Almberg moved to approve the application; Dean Reynolds seconded. The motion passed with four votes in favor and Commissioner George Chachas voting no. Chachas said semi-trucks parked on the property constitute commercial activity and informed the commission that factored into his opposition.
No further formal actions (amendments or conditions) were recorded on the motion. The approval changes the zoning status of the named parcels and will be reflected in county zoning records.
