Council to consider trading two old CPR devices toward new LUCAS automated units

Safety Director Dan Chafin told Council the City owns four CPR devices and budgeted replacement of two units for 2026; he described automated CPR devices as providing uninterrupted chest compressions during transport while freeing EMS personnel to perform other interventions. Following competitive quotations, Chafin said Stryker offered a trade-in value of $4,000 per existing device and the lowest purchase price for replacements, and he requested suspension of the three-reading rule to expedite the trade-in and purchase.
Council Member Zach Berger confirmed funding was included in the approved budget, and Chafin affirmed the purchase would remain below the budgeted amount. The ordinance would authorize trading in two devices toward two new LUCAS machines for Wadsworth EMS.
