Council hears plan to sell aged Rescue 6 to Medina County Emergency Management Agency

Safety Director Dan Chafin told Council Rescue 6 has exceeded its expected 25-year service life and that Medina County Emergency Management Agency had expressed interest in purchasing the vehicle to support its hazardous materials team. Chafin said he had obtained two independent value estimates "both supporting a sale price of approximately $35,000" and recommended selling to the County rather than marketing through a broker to preserve proceeds.
Chafin added the apparatus originally cost about $220,000 and that recent purchases of rescue pumper apparatus have reduced the City's operational need for a separate heavy rescue truck because frontline engines now carry the necessary equipment. Selling to the county would keep the vehicle in the mutual aid network that benefits Wadsworth residents.
