The Board of County Commissioners voted Feb. 19 to approve the City of Wichita27s island-annexation request for a roughly 4.73-acre parcel owned by TCRS LLC on the south side of West MacArthur Road near K-42.
Assistant county counselor Samantha Cian explained the annexation meets the three statutory conditions for island annexations: the land is in the same county as the city, the owner requested annexation, and the county must find the annexation will not hinder the proper growth and development of the area or other incorporated cities in Sedgwick County. Cian said the parcel is within the City of Wichita27s 2035 growth area and that the city will provide water, sewer, police and fire services upon annexation.
After brief comments by commissioners and a roll-call vote, the board adopted the required finding and the motion carried by unanimous vote. Chairman Beatty said he appreciated the work between city and county staff to extend utilities and prepare the area for development.
