Representatives of the Atomic Elks Lodge asked council to ensure a Department of Energy block grant approved last August for the Scarborough community proceed without delay and recommended that the city use its influence to keep the project on schedule.
"We want to impress upon the critical need, that that grant proceed," said Rose Weaver, who identified her address and described the grant's role in revitalizing the Scarborough neighborhood. A lodge representative, Mabry Duff, provided historical context and described proposed uses including an educational center, computer lab and meeting space for the community, and thanked the council for past support.
Council members acknowledged receipt of packet materials, and the city manager reported that staff had confirmed the funding was in place as of midday on the meeting date. No formal action was taken during the appearance-of-citizens period beyond the council noting the request and asking staff to follow up.
