Sheridan County commissioners approved transferring ownership of K-9 Fox to Deputy Caitlin Oswald at the May 26 staff meeting. Sheriff Levi Dominguez reported that Fox will be retired due to medical issues and that the department has been offered a well-trained Rottweiler named Tyson at no cost for continued detection and tracking duties. Administrative Director Cameron Duff said a formal vote was required because the dog is county property. Commissioner Mike Arzy moved to transfer ownership, and the motion passed unanimously.
Dominguez said Deputy Oswald intends to keep Fox as a family pet and that the department will follow formal procedures to transfer ownership. The replacement dog, Tyson, will be trained for drug detection, tracking, trailing, and evidence recovery similarly to the county's other service dogs.
