Whitman County held a public bid opening July 20 for countywide guardrail and guideposts. Bids ranged from $1,247,575.00 (Coral Construction Co., Inc., Wilsonville, OR) to $1,758,408.55 (Peterson Brothers, Inc., Sumner, WA). Commissioner Arthur D. Swannack announced Coral Construction as the apparent low bidder; County Engineer Dean Cornelison said bid tabs will be reviewed and the award will be made at the Aug. 3, 2026 meeting.
The bid list published in the minutes included six bidders and their submitted totals. The county noted it will verify bids and award in two weeks; the approval in the minutes does not constitute the final contract award. The procurement was handled by the Public Works Department as part of routine road-safety and infrastructure work.
