Harvey County awards parks UTV bid to local dealer, cites service and resale concerns

The Harvey County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 30 approved awarding the Parks Department side-by-side UTV purchase to Dan's Cycle, LLC for $18,495.75. Parks Director Kass Miller told the board that three bids met the minimum specifications and were under the budgeted amount; the bidders were Biker's Edge (CFMoto U-Force 1000) at $12,259.00, Dan's Cycle (Kawasaki Mule FX HD) at $18,495.75, and Flint Hills Powersports (Polaris Ranger) at $20,043.99. "A discussion was held regarding reputation, reliability and resale value of the units from each manufacturer and that the $3,036.75 total cost difference between the CFMoto and Kawasaki bids does not account for the travel costs to/from Wichita versus Hesston for any required parts, service or repair work," Miller said.
Commissioners said the local dealer support and long-term reliability weighed into the decision. Commissioner Terry Scott moved to award the bid to Dan's Cycle, LLC for the Kawasaki Mule FX HD with selected options; Commissioner Becky Reimer seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Meeting attachments include bid tabulation, warranty details and trade-in allowances for the units presented.
