Harvey County renews county engineer contract with MKEC Engineering

The Harvey County Board of Commissioners voted to accept a contract with MKEC Engineering, Inc. to serve as the county-appointed County Engineer. Jim Meier, Road & Bridge Superintendent, told commissioners the firm has performed county engineering services since 2014 and recommended reappointing MKEC. "This contract is for one year with four additional option years, renewing automatically every year unless written notice is issued; it will expire in November of 2030 unless it is cancelled sooner," Meier said.
Commissioners discussed whether to solicit bids in the future; they agreed the county should request bids prior to the contract's expiration in 2030. Commissioner Terry Scott moved to accept the terms of the Contract for Engineering Services and authorize the Administrator to sign; Commissioner Becky Reimer seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The contract document references state statutes governing county engineer duties (K.S.A. 68-501 and 68-502) and sets standard hourly rates and insurance/indemnity requirements in exhibits attached to the contract.
