Harvey County OKs purchase of two Dodge Durango patrol vehicles for sheriff's office

The Harvey County Board of Commissioners voted Sept. 30 to authorize the sheriff's office to purchase two Dodge Durango patrol vehicles from Superior Emergency Response Vehicles for a total purchase price of $99,499.87. Undersheriff Shawn Chapman told the board the county received $22,311.37 from insurance for a vehicle that was totaled, which brings the county's out-of-pocket cost to $77,188.50. "The total cost to purchase the two vehicles is $99,499.87; the total cost for both units after insurance pay out of $22,311.37 for totaled patrol car is $77,188.50," Chapman said.
Chapman said one vehicle replaces a patrol car that was totaled in an accident and the other replaces a reserve vehicle that has reached the end of its service life. He said equipment from the wrecked unit can be transferred to a replacement and that SERV will complete upfitting and decaling prior to delivery. Commissioner Terry Scott moved to approve the purchase, waive the purchasing policy, and authorize staff to sign necessary paperwork; Commissioner Becky Reimer seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The county's staff memo notes the vehicles were not budgeted for replacement and recommended using the Equipment Reserve Fund to cover costs. The SERV estimates and upfitting line items were provided in meeting attachments for review.
