Fairgrounds director asks commissioners to back operations and capital improvements

Capital items described include exhibit‑hall floor replacement (one vendor estimate with a 10‑year warranty at about $73,080), upgrades to vendor power pedestals behind grandstands, ADA seating and an uninterruptible power system for grandstand areas. She said GPET funds previously approved are designated for specific capital projects and cannot be repurposed for operations.
Commissioners questioned specific line items — notably a $15,000 vehicle/equipment line that several commissioners recommended trimming and replacing with a $5,000–$7,500 allocation for a snowblower attachment. The board approved multiple fairgrounds capital items by voice vote, including replacement of vendor power pedestals and an exhibit‑hall floor upgrade, and moved the larger building concept and some high‑cost items into a separate study session for more detailed review and grant‑match planning.
Solberg and the fairgrounds board will return with specifications and, where required, RFPs or bids for contractors before work is authorized.
