The DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections approved a permanent polling-place change for the La Vista / La Vista Road precinct, moving the location from Congregation Beth Jacob to Saint Bartholomew's Episcopal Church.
Director Dorothy Smith told the board the synagogue informed the county it could no longer host the precinct and the department has proposed Saint Bartholomew's as the replacement. Smith said the impacted population is 4,832 voters and that updated precinct cards and legal notices will be mailed; the change will run in the legal organ prior to the deadline. "We'll explore other options for notifying this," Smith said, citing signage and posting and saying the office could consider robocalls.
Board members asked how far the new site is from the prior location; Smith said the distance measured from the precinct center was 0.2 miles (one member estimated about 0.3 miles). Following brief discussion, the board approved the change by voice vote.
