Commissioners outlined programming for the upcoming Arbor Day/Earth Day celebration, scheduled for Thursday the 24th beginning at 4 p.m. Activities will include vehicle and maintenance displays, an owl‑naming contest, children's tree art, raffles, a fire‑safety presentation and an exhibit on Piedmont raptors and completed park projects.
Eka Schneider, communications program manager, said staff will start publicity the following week and run a series of communications and an Earth Month video to drive attendance and recognition of heritage‑tree nominators. "We are going to be rolling out, launching our kind of publicity around this starting next week," Schneider said. Commissioners also discussed volunteer engagement — including scouts — and the logistics of raffles, prizes and sustainability displays.
