Baldwin County proclaims Aug. 7 Purple Heart Day, designates August as Purple Heart Month

Commissioner Gruber presented and the Baldwin County Commission approved a proclamation recognizing Aug. 7, 2026 as National Purple Heart Day and declaring the month of August 2026 National Purple Heart Month in Baldwin County.
Commissioner Gruber read the proclamation’s text, saying the county is "hereby set aside as National Purple Heart Month in Baldwin County, Alabama," and emphasized the county's large veteran population and support for Purple Heart recipients. Dr. Andrew Delgadio, senior vice commander for the nation for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, provided historical context and highlighted local connections that will be commemorated at a ceremony.
Phil Quigley, vice president of marketing for the Mobile Bay Area Veterans Commission, described the Aug. 7 salute at the Daphne Civic Center and said youth groups and the Baldwin County Youth Orchestra will participate. The commission voted by voice to accept the proclamation with no recorded opposition.
The commission encouraged residents to learn more about the Purple Heart's history and to attend the ceremony at the Daphne Civic Center on Aug. 7.
